I've been hanging out in Kent the past few days because I was summoned for jury duty. Contrary to what everyone told me I was actually selected, so I'll be there a few days longer.
At lunchtime the court staff directed us all over to a brand new outdoor mall across the street from the courthouse. I checked it out the first day and there was a chain of chain restaurants. I did find a noodle place that was perfectly respectable, for a chain restaurant.
I had some time after lunch so I did a bit of exploring and found that, just six or seven blocks away, there were quite a few rather authentic ethnic eateries. I found an Asian and a Mexican grocery, and a lovely Thai place where I had lunch today.
It felt like a metaphor for, well, just about everything. Stay off the beaten path and you'll find much more interesting options.
